Course Description

Fire safety is a fundamental aspect of workplace health and safety, protecting lives, property, and the continuity of care services. In healthcare and other high-risk environments, the rapid spread of fire, smoke, and toxic fumes can have devastating consequences. Staff must be fully aware of potential hazards, understand how to prevent fires, and know exactly what to do in the event of an emergency.

Incidents and investigations in health and social care settings have shown that a swift, coordinated response to fire alarms and clear evacuation procedures can save lives. This CSTF-aligned Fire Safety course equips learners with the knowledge to identify risks, follow local fire safety protocols, and take appropriate action to protect themselves, colleagues, patients, and visitors.

What You Will Learn

a) Understand the characteristics of fire, smoke, and toxic fumes.

b) Know the fire hazards involved in the working environment.

c) Be aware of the significant findings of relevant fire risk assessments.

d) Understand how to practice and promote fire prevention.

e) Be aware of basic fire safety and local fire safety protocols, including staff responsibilities during a fire incident.

f) Know the means of raising the fire alarm and the actions to take on hearing the fire alarm.

g) Know instinctively the right action to take if fire breaks out or smoke is detected.

h) Be familiar with the different types of fire extinguishers, state their use, and identify the safety precautions associated with their use.

i) Understand the importance of being familiar with evacuation procedures and associated escape routes.

Assessment & Certification
Includes a knowledge assessment. On successful completion, a CSTF-aligned certificate is issued (valid for 1 year).
